After much searching for a solution to the “No coredump target configured” message on one of our ESXi 5.5 hosts, finally found this page that indicated the solution was to enter the following in the CLI (after configuring a persistent storage in the advanced settings):
esxcli system coredump file add
esxcli system coredump file set –smart –enable true
